As quoted in the map (KJV)

1 Kings 8:10–11 (KJV)

10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

Key words

הֶעָנָן מָלֵא אֶת־בֵּית יְהוָהhe'anan male et-bet YHWH · Hebrew
'the cloud filled the house of the LORD' — the same cloud that filled the tabernacle in Exodus 40.
כְּבוֹד יְהוָהkevod YHWH · Hebrew
'the glory of the LORD' — the visible presence that makes the temple God's dwelling.

Why it matters

At Solomon's dedication the priests carry the Ark into the Holy of Holies, and only then does the cloud descend and the glory of the LORD fill the house. Pitre draws the rule from this (p 49): where the Ark goes, the presence of God goes, because of the glory cloud. It is the premise of the Annunciation argument — when the cloud overshadows Mary, the Ark has returned.
