Giovanni Paolo Panini, Interior of St. Peter's, Rome, c. 1754 · Public domainGiovanni Paolo Panini, Interior of St. Peter's, Rome, c. 1754
A synod of Phrygia held at Laodicea in the second half of the fourth century, known only through its sixty canons. They regulate the liturgy and the clergy, forbid the worship of angels and Christians keeping the Jewish Sabbath, and in the last canon list the books of Scripture to be read in church. The list omits Revelation and is cited in every discussion of the canon of Scripture.
