Louis Haghe after Gaspare Fossati, Aya Sofia, Constantinople, 1852 · Public domainLouis Haghe after Gaspare Fossati, Aya Sofia, Constantinople, 1852
The sixth ecumenical council, called by Constantine IV, which condemned monothelitism and defined that Christ has two natural wills and two operations, divine and human, working without division or confusion, the human will following the divine. Pope Agatho's letter to the emperor was received as the rule of faith, and Pope Honorius was condemned with the monothelite patriarchs for his negligence. It passed no canons; the Council in Trullo supplied them eleven years later. Its own texts are on this site in Henry R. Percival's 1900 translation.
