Typology (Method)

The idea

Read Mary the way the apostles and Church Fathers read Scripture — 'through ancient Jewish eyes,' by typology: Old Testament persons and things (Eve, the Ark, the queen mother, Rachel) are patterns fulfilled in her. And every belief about Mary rests on a belief about Jesus.

Key verses

  • Luke 1:48 — 'henceforth all generations will call me blessed' — Scripture itself expects her to be honored.

The connection

Old Testament rootNew Testament fulfilment
An OT type — Eve, Ark, queen mother, RachelIts fulfillment in Mary, revealing Christ

The book's engine: just as the apostles saw Jesus as the new Adam, Moses, and David, they and the Fathers read Mary through Old Testament patterns. Each Marian type is anchored to a truth about Christ, so honoring Mary always points back to him.
