CommentAugustine of HippoPublic domainJohn 8:21–24

In accordance with what was just, He said that no man laid hands on Him, because His hour was not yet come; He now speaks to the Jews of His passion, as a free, and not a compulsory sacrifice on His part: Then said Jesus again unto them, I go My way. Death to our Lord was a return to the place whence He had come.

Reproduced in full. Translation: Oxford 1841 (Newman), public domain (Public domain).
