CommentRemigius of AuxerrePublic domainMatthew 3:1–3

“The Kingdom of Heaven” has a fourfold meaning. It is said, of Christ, as “The Kingdom of God is within you.” [Luke 17:21] Of Holy Scripture, as, “The Kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.” [Matt 21:43] Of the Holy Church, as, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto ten virgins.” [Matt 25:1] Of the abode above, as, “Many shall come from the East and the West, and shall sit down in the Kingdom of Heaven.” [Matt 8:11] And all these significations may be here understood.

Reproduced in full. Translation: Oxford 1841 (Newman), public domain (Public domain).
