Enoch, son of Jared

Who

Son of Jared and father of Methuselah, of whom Genesis says only that he “walked with God, and he was not found, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24). Sirach calls him “an example of repentance to all generations” (Sirach 44:16) and says no one on earth was created like him (Sirach 49:14), and Hebrews says that “By faith Enoch was taken away, so that he wouldn’t see death” (Hebrews 11:5). Jude quotes a prophecy under his name (Jude 1:14–15). Many of the Fathers held that Enoch and Elijah, both taken up alive, would return before the end as witnesses (compare Revelation 11:3).
