Who
A wife of King Rehoboam, the mother of Abijah: “His mother’s name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom” (1 Kings 15:2); she is the best loved of Rehoboam’s wives (2 Chronicles 11:21). She kept the rank of queen mother into the reign of her grandson Asa, until he “removed Maacah his mother from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah” (1 Kings 15:13). Her removal shows how real an office the queen mother held in David’s house.
