Who
Jesse’s third son, David’s brother, also called Shammah and Shimei. When Samuel came to anoint a king, Jesse made him pass by, and Samuel said, “The LORD has not chosen this one, either” (1 Samuel 16:9). He served in Saul’s army against the Philistines with his two elder brothers (1 Samuel 17:13). His son Jonadab counselled Amnon (2 Samuel 13:3), and another son, Jonathan, killed a giant of Gath: “Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, killed him” (2 Samuel 21:21).
