Who
Monk of Wearmouth and Jarrow in Northumbria who never travelled far from his monastery, yet became the most learned man of his age; a Doctor of the Church since 1899. Besides the Ecclesiastical History of the English People he wrote commentaries on Luke, Mark, Acts and the Catholic epistles, and homilies on the Gospels, all compiled with care from the Fathers. Aquinas draws on him constantly for Luke and Mark in the Catena Aurea.
