In Jewish Roots of Mary

Who

Manuscripts found near Qumran, the library of a Jewish community of Jesus' time. Pitre lists them among the Jewish sources outside the Bible that he draws on, and notes that the evidence for Mary's vow 'is not hidden in some obscure Dead Sea Scroll' but in Numbers 30.

Quoted works

  • Appendix, Jewish Sources Outside the Bible — defined and dated among the seven collections of Jewish sources (pp 17, 168)
  • Chapter 5 — Pitre remarks that the evidence for vows of abstinence is in the Bible itself, not only in the Scrolls (p 96)
