Who
Bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia and companion of Polycarp; his Exposition of the Sayings of the Lord, known through Irenaeus and Eusebius, preserves the traditions about the making of Mark's and Matthew's Gospels. Irenaeus calls him a hearer of John; Eusebius thought he meant the presbyter John rather than the apostle.
