Who

Bishop of Alexandria from 300, who withdrew during the persecution of Diocletian, deposed Meletius of Lycopolis for usurping his authority, and was beheaded under Maximinus Daia in 311, the last martyr of the Alexandrian see, "the seal of the martyrs". His canonical letter of 306 lays down penances for those who lapsed under persecution, and fragments of his writing on the Resurrection and on the soul survive.

See of Alexandria, 300–311.
