“Holy Communion, because by this sacrament we unite ourselves to Christ, who makes us sharers in his Body and Blood to form a single body.” — Catechism footnote: Cf. 1 Cor 10: 16-17.

Cyril of Jerusalem
“…of the Holy and Adorable Trinity were simple bread and wine, while after the invocation the Bread becomes the Body of Christ, and the Wine the Blood of Christ, so in like manner such meats belonging to the pomp of Satan, though in their own nature simple, become profane by the invocation of the evil spirit.” — editor's note: Compare St. Paul’s argument against meats offered to idols, 1 Cor. x. 14–21: and on Cyril’s Eucharistic doctrine, see notes on Cat. xxii.
