CommentGregory the GreatPublic domainMatthew 2:12

We may learn much from this return of the Magi another way. Our country is Paradise, to which, after we have come to the knowledge of Christ we are forbidden to return the way we came. We have left this country by pride, disobedience, following things of sight, tasting, forbidden food; and we must return to it by repentance, obedience, by contemning things of sight, and overcoming carnal appetite.

Reproduced in full. Translation: Oxford 1841 (Newman), public domain (Public domain).

Also cites: Hom. in Ev. i. 10. 7
