CommentJeromePublic domainMatthew 17:24–27

Before any hint from Peter, the Lord puts the question to him, that His disciples might not be offended at the demand of tribute, when they see that He knows even those things that are done in His absence.

It follows, “But he said, From strangers; Jesus said unto him, Then are the children free.”

Reproduced in full. Translation: Oxford 1841 (Newman), public domain (Public domain).
