Catena Aurea on John 8:48–51: Origen

CommentOrigenPublic domainJohn 8:48–51

Our Lord, even more than Paul, wished to become all things to all men, that He might gain some: and therefore He did not deny being a Samaritan. (s. 29.). I have not a devil, is what Jesus alone can say; as He alone can say, The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in Me. (c. 14:30). None of us are quite free from having a devil. For even lesser faults come from him.

Reproduced in full. Translation: Oxford 1841 (Newman), public domain (Public domain).

Also cites: tom. xx. s. 28.
