Targum on Micah 5:1–3 — as quoted by Pitre (p 123); translation: Kevin Cathcart and Robert Gordon, The Targum of the Minor Prophets (Aramaic Bible 14)

And you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah…from you shall come forth before me the Messiah, to exercise dominion over Israel, he whose name was mentioned from of old, from ancient times. Then they shall be handed over in the time when she who is in labour gives birth…He shall arise and rule with might from the Lord.

No freely usable English translation of this passage is online, so the note keeps Pitre's quotation and links to the full text. Translation: Kevin Cathcart and Robert Gordon, The Targum of the Minor Prophets (Aramaic Bible 14), as quoted by Pitre.

Why it is cited

'From you shall come forth before me the Messiah… they shall be handed over in the time when she who is in labour gives birth.' The Targum reads Micah's ruler as the Messiah and keeps the mother in travail.
