The idea
Micah ties the ruler from Bethlehem to a mother 'in travail' who brings him forth (5:3). Isaiah pictures a woman who gives birth before her pain comes (66:7) and then Zion bearing her children (66:8), and Micah shows Israel writhing in labor before her deliverance (4:9–10). The Messiah's coming is bound up with a mother from the start.
