Who
The unknown Syrian writer, probably a monk around 500, who published the Divine Names, Mystical Theology, Celestial Hierarchy, Ecclesiastical Hierarchy and ten letters under the name of Paul's Athenian convert. His account of the nine choirs of angels and of the ascent to God beyond all names ruled medieval theology, and Aquinas cites him constantly. A passage of the Divine Names describing the apostles gathered at the "life-giving body" was read by later writers as a memory of Mary's Dormition.
