Who

The second ecumenical council, called by Theodosius I with 150 bishops and presided over first by Meletius of Antioch, then by Gregory of Nazianzus. It affirmed the divinity of the Holy Spirit against the Macedonians and condemned Apollinaris, who denied Christ a human mind. The creed associated with it, the one sung at Mass, confesses that the Son "was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man", the first conciliar creed to name her; its third canon ranked Constantinople after Rome. Its own texts are on this site in Henry R. Percival's 1900 translation.
