Who

Pupil of Origen at Caesarea, whose Panegyric on his master is the best picture of Origen's school, and bishop of Neocaesarea in Pontus from about 240, called the Wonderworker. His canonical letter regulates the Church after the Gothic raids of the 250s, and a short exposition of the Trinity is his creed. Gregory of Nyssa's Life of him records the earliest reported appearance of the Virgin Mary, who came with John the apostle to teach him that creed, and the chain keeps him for that.

See of Neocaesarea, c. 240–270.
