2 Samuel 6:12

2 Samuel 6:12 (WEB)

King David was told, “The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that belongs to him, because of God’s ark.” So David went and brought up God’s ark from the house of Obed-Edom into David’s city with joy.

As quoted in the map (KJV)

2 Samuel 6:12 (KJV)

And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with gladness.

Key words

בֵּרַךְ יְהוָה אֶת־בֵּית עֹבֵד אֱדֹםberakh YHWH et-bet Oved Edom · Hebrew
'the LORD hath blessed the house of Obed-edom' — the Ark brings blessing on the house that shelters it.
בְּשִׂמְחָהbesimchah · Hebrew
'with gladness' — the second, successful procession is marked by joy.

Why it matters

Hearing that the Ark has blessed Obed-edom's house, David resumes the procession, this time carrying the Ark properly and with rejoicing. Pitre notes that the blessing on the household is the reason the Ark moves again (pp 48–49). Luke's Visitation echoes this: Mary's three-month stay brings blessing on Elizabeth's house, and Elizabeth greets her as 'blessed among women.'
