Acts 2:32–33 (KJV)

Key words

ἀνέστησενanestēsen · Greek
'raised up' — the resurrection.
τῇ δεξιᾷ τοῦ θεοῦ ὑψωθείςtē dexia tou theou hypsōtheis · Greek
'by the right hand of God exalted' — enthroned at God's right hand, as Joseph was set at Pharaoh's (Genesis 41:40).

Why it matters

Peter proclaims that the crucified Jesus has been raised and exalted to God's right hand. Pitre completes the Joseph–Jesus parallel: Joseph, cast down and then exalted to Pharaoh's right hand, saved the world with bread; Jesus, crucified and then exalted, feeds the world with the Bread of Life and is at first unrecognised when he reveals himself. Since Jesus is the new Joseph, his mother is the New Rachel.
