Key words

כִּסֵּאkisse · Hebrew
'throne.' Only in the throne is Pharaoh greater — Joseph is raised to the second place in the kingdom, effectively at the king's right hand.
שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָהsheloshim shanah · Hebrew
'thirty years old' (41:46) — Joseph's age when he stands before Pharaoh; Jesus is 'about thirty' when he begins his ministry (Luke 3:23).

Why it matters

The betrayed and imprisoned Joseph is exalted to Pharaoh's right hand at thirty and saves the world by giving it bread (41:55–57), and his brothers do not recognise him when they meet him (42:8). Pitre continues the parallel: Jesus, betrayed and cast down, is raised to God's right hand, feeds the world with the Bread of Life, and is not recognised at first when he appears risen. The completed Joseph pattern seals the case that Mary is the New Rachel.
