ConnectionChapter 4 · 4.2 Mary the New Queen · pp 74–81

The logic that makes Mary the Queen Mother.

Queen Mother

The idea

Jesus is the new David, given 'the throne of his father David.' If he is the Davidic King, his mother holds the Davidic office of queen mother. Elizabeth already grants the royal title, and Revelation crowns the Woman with twelve stars.

Key verses

  • Luke 1:32 — 'the Lord will give him the throne of his father David.'
  • Matthew 1:16 — Mary named at the close of the royal genealogy, as the queen mother is named at each king's accession (pp 74–75).
  • Luke 1:43 — 'the mother of my Lord' — a royal title.
  • Revelation 12:1 — a crown of twelve stars — the twelve tribes of Genesis 37:9 (p 79).
  • Luke 1:52 — the Magnificat's 'thrones' (pp 77–78).

The connection

Old Testament rootNew Testament fulfilment
Davidic king → Davidic queen motherKing Jesus → Queen Mother Mary

The argument runs as a syllogism: Jesus is the new Davidic king; every Davidic king had a queen mother; therefore Mary is the queen mother. Elizabeth's 'mother of my Lord' and Revelation's crown of stars confirm the royal role.

Old Testament root → New Testament fulfilment
