Nathan, son of David

Who

A son of David born in Jerusalem to Bathshua (Bathsheba), full brother of Solomon (1 Chronicles 3:5; 2 Samuel 5:14). Scripture tells nothing of his life, but Luke traces the genealogy of Christ through him rather than through Solomon (Luke 3:31). Julius Africanus, quoted by Eusebius (Church History I.7), explained the two lines by the law of levirate marriage: Joseph was by nature of Solomon’s line, as Matthew gives it, and by law of Nathan’s, as Luke gives it. He is not the prophet Nathan who rebuked David.
