Who
Son of David and Bathsheba, king of Israel, who asked God for “an understanding heart” and was given wisdom beyond all (1 Kings 3:9–12). He built the Temple in Jerusalem and dedicated it (1 Kings 6–8). When his mother came to him he rose, bowed to her and set a throne for her at his right hand (1 Kings 2:19), the first scene of the queen mother’s office in Judah. In his old age his wives “turned away his heart after other gods” (1 Kings 11:4), and the kingdom was divided after him.
