Church Fatherc. 313–398

Who

Blind from early childhood, yet head of the catechetical school of Alexandria and the teacher of Jerome, Rufinus and Palladius. On the Holy Spirit survives in Jerome's Latin, On the Trinity in Greek, and papyri found at Tura in 1941 restored his commentaries on Genesis, Job, Zechariah and the Psalms. His Origenist views on the pre-existence of souls were condemned in 553, but his testimony to Mary's perpetual virginity was always received.
