Ezekiel 25:15

Ezekiel 25:15 (WEB)

“‘The Lord GOD says: “Because the Philistines have taken revenge, and have taken vengeance with contempt of soul to destroy with perpetual hostility,”

As quoted in the map (KJV)

Ezekiel 25:15 (KJV)

Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;

Key words

אֵיבַת עוֹלָםeybat olam · Hebrew
'the old hatred' — literally 'perpetual enmity,' the same word eybah as in Genesis 3:15, here describing the Philistines' murderous vengeance against Judah.

Why it matters

The Philistines act 'in enmity,' taking vengeance with a spiteful heart to destroy. Pitre cites this alongside Numbers 35:21 to establish that eybah means lethal hostility — the hatred of nations at war. Read with that meaning, Genesis 3:15 declares an unrelenting war between the serpent and the Woman, which Revelation 12 shows being fought between the dragon and the mother of the Messiah.
