CommentBedePublic domainMark 15:6–15

We must understand that Jesus was scourged by no other than Pilate himself. For John writes: “Pilate took Jesus, and scourged Him,” [John 19:1] which we must suppose that he did, that the Jews might be satisfied with Him pains and insults, and cease from thirsting for His blood.

Reproduced in full. Translation: Oxford 1841 (Newman), public domain (Public domain).
