Who
Bishop of Alexandria from 385 to 412 and uncle of Cyril, who destroyed the Serapeum in 391, turned against the Origenist monks of Nitria, and engineered the deposition of John Chrysostom at the Synod of the Oak in 403. His canonical letters, on the Epiphany fast and on cases referred to him from the Egyptian churches, were received into the code of canons; a few homilies survive in Coptic.
