Who
The third ecumenical council, called under Theodosius II and led by Cyril of Alexandria. It condemned Nestorius and affirmed that Mary is rightly called Theotokos, because the one born of her is the Word of God made flesh. Its own texts are on this site in Henry R. Percival's 1900 translation.

In Jewish Roots of Mary
Who
The third ecumenical council, which affirmed that Mary is rightly called Theotokos, Mother of God, because the one she bore is the divine Son made man. Pitre calls it the premier example of a belief about Mary that rests on a belief about Jesus (CCC 466, 495).
