- 'very good.' Not merely well-made but morally good; the same word tov describes what is right and pleasing to God. The Septuagint renders it kala lian (καλὰ λίαν).
Why it matters
Before the fall, humanity is pronounced 'very good' — created in original holiness, without sin, and given access to the tree of life. Pitre uses this as the baseline for the New Eve: if the first woman began her existence sinless, it is fitting that the New Eve, who must give the obedient 'yes' Eve withheld, likewise begins in grace. The Immaculate Conception is a restoration of Eden's starting point, not an innovation.
