When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate. Then she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.

Why it matters
Eve is not alone at the tree: the Hebrew says Adam was 'with her.' Pitre's second point about Eve (pp 22–23) is that the first sin is a joint act — Eve cooperates with Adam and Adam with Eve. That is what makes the New Eve typology possible: as the first woman stood with the first man at the tree of the fall, Mary stands with the new Adam at the tree of the cross (John 19:25).
