Who
Roman governor acclaimed bishop of Milan in 374 while still a catechumen, and a Doctor of the Church; he baptized Augustine in 387. His Exposition of the Gospel of Luke, On Virgins, On the Holy Spirit, On the Mysteries and the hymns he introduced shaped the Latin West. He is the first Latin Father to call Mary a type of the Church, and he defended her perpetual virginity at length. The chain quotes him above all on Luke's infancy narrative.
